Treetopia Loves: Flag Inspired Labor Day Feasts

Labor Day is the time for hard working folks to sit back, relax, and spend time with their loved ones. Although this weekend gives us a well-deserved break from chasing the American Dream, it doesn’t mean we can’t show our love for the red, white, and blue. Whether you’re preparing a feast in your backyard or sharing in a potluck, give your party a delicious dose of patriotic flair with these 6 flag-inspired Labor Day recipes à la Treetopia Loves.

Celebrating the last few days of summer won’t be complete without an ice cold drink. Look no further than these Red, White & Blue Vanilla Bean Spritzers by Shanna of Pineapple and Coconut to cool down your guests. These non-alcoholic spritzers are made from frozen strawberry and blueberry syrup and vanilla bean syrup made by Shanna herself. Visit her post for prep instructions and recipe here. If you’re looking for a drink with a little buzz, these white and blue Sangrias from Noble Pig are worth a look.

Diane of Created by Diane made these vibrant deviled eggs by dipping the hard-boiled eggs whites in a mixture of food coloring, white distilled vinegar, and hot water for a couple of minutes. Her recipe for the yolk consists of mayo, mustard, salt, pepper, and yogurt for a thicker mixture without the added fat. Learn more about this fancy appetizer by visiting the post here. Deviled eggs a little too zesty for your taste? Try this star-spangled dip from Hungry Happenings and pair them with your favorite crackers.

This super simple recipe comes by way of Lynnae Mccoy. After cooking the rotini, she put half of it in a 2-gallon size Ziploc bag with red food color and another half with blue food color. Completing the theme of this patriotic pasta salad are squares of mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, artichoke hearts, and a few sliced ingredients. She calls it “the ultimate barbecue potluck dish,” and we agree. Find the full recipe here at lynnaemccoy.com.

We believe a great Labor Day cookout deserves more than one side. Plus, we think this red, blue, and white potato salad by Marie of Proud Italian Cook is just too good to leave out of our list. Marie’s creation is made from red, white, and blue potatoes (no food color required), and includes red bell peppers, onions, scallions, chopped parsley and chives, and a light olive oil dressing. Get the complete instructions and a bonus recipe for a whole grilled snapper from Proud Italian Cook.
